Welcome to Trina Ward: Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine
I am an established acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist with over thirty years of practice and a wealth of experience and success covering a range of conditions from post-stroke recovery, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's to fertility, menopause, prostrate and bladder control, stress, anxiety and insomnia and many, many other conditions.
I have a breadth of training which includes: four years full-time study in all aspects of Chinese medicine, an MPhil in the safety of herbs and a PHD in the knowledge of Chinese medicine funded by the Department of Health. I have lectured in China and on several Masters courses in the UK and presented at conferences in China, Bhutan, Australia and the UK.
I was invited by the Taiwanese government as part of a British delegation representing UK based herbalists to observe the manufacturing of herbal powders in Taiwan.
I am a member of the British Acunpuncture Council, which is a member of the Professional Standards Authority, and a member of the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine.
I am a clinician at Islington Acupunture in North London. I also offer a mobile service with treatments given whilst you are in hospital or at home.
Acupuncture in the West is a commonly used part of Chinese medicine, yet in Asia it makes up a small part, with more than 70% of conditions being treated with Chinese herbs. Together they make up an incredibly complete system which views the body as a whole rather than the sum of isolated parts.
Along with increasing high standards in the production of herbs, the body of scientific research has grown exponentially. For most conditions where Chinese herbs are prescribed, I can share scientific evidence of their effects with you. From time to time research on Chinese herbs ‘escapes’ into the worldwide supplement industry. For example, turmeric – sold worldwide as an anti-inflammatory, has been used in Chinese herbal medicine as part of complex formulae for thousands of years, it would never be used in isolation but is balanced by other herbs to create a more powerful effect. The balancing of herbs in a formula is one of the ways that make Chinese herbs safe and effective.

Acupuncture is excellent at regulating and balancing whilst Chinese herbal medicine can nourish the body and clear toxins. My years of practice and extensive academic training makes me uniquely and ideally placed to advise on the most complete treatment plan for you.

Treatments that respond well to Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine
I have a wealth of experience and success covering a range of conditions. As well as using acupuncture & Chinese herbs to improve general health, women specific health issues respond very well, especially for regulating the monthly cycle, reducing painful periods and helping the transition through the menopause.
Chinese medicine can be very effective for fertility issues, preparing for IVF, pregnancy conditions such as morning sickness, turning a breech baby as well as postpartum lactation issues. Many couples come to prepare for IVF and some become pregnant before even starting with IVF. I am now treating the grown-up children for fertility issues having treated their parents who were having trouble conceiving over twenty years ago.
For male fertility Chinese herbs make a valuable contribution to improve sperm morphology, motility and count, and for post varicocele recovery.
Acupuncture is a well-established treatment for pain of various causes, from sports injuries to living with chronic pain, headaches and migraines and can aid in post stroke and Bell’s palsy recovery. Stress, anxiety, insomnia and digestive problems can also respond well to acupuncture and Chinese herbal treatments. Whilst for many skin conditions and certain auto-immune conditions Chinese herbs would be the treatment of first choice.
